Mentors Needed To Help Send Students to College For Free
Hamilton County needs more volunteer mentors to help students go to college free.
The Tennessee Promise program is the state’s new initiative to send High School graduates to a community or tech college for free.
But in order for Hamilton County to be able to participate, they need mentors for the students.
Councilman Chris Anderson says they still need 87 volunteers by the end of the month.
He says mentors have to be 21 or older, pass a background check, and spend just an hour every month with the student.
"Everyone is always too busy to do this or do that, but one hour a month is worth it if it makes a difference in the life of a student who otherwise wouldn’t go to college," said Anderson.
