Fallen Five Memorial groundbreaking

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Local leaders broke ground for the Fallen Five Memorial: “Wreath of Honor” on Thursday.

Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke and Hamilton County Mayor Jim Coppinger at at the Riverpark along with the memorial artists, and military representatives.

The groundbreaking is the next step in creating a permanent memorial honoring the five service men who lost their lives during the July 2015 terrorist attack at the Armed Services Recruiting Center, the U.S. Naval Operational Support Center and the Marine Corps Reserve Center.

The artists are asking members of the community to suggest thoughts and sentiments that will be cut into the metal bands of the suspended wreath.
