Latest Poll Puts Jason Carter ahead of Nathan Deal To Be Next Georgia Governor

NORTH GEORGIA, (WDEF)-The latest CNN polls put Jason Carter ahead of Nathan Deal in the race to be next Governor of Georgia.

Political Analysts say they are shocked by how close this race could be but expect Deal to pull through.

Dr. Ken Ellinger, Political Science, Dalton State,"It’s hard to believe a Democrat can win in a major race like that because the last 12 years have been so disastrous for the Democratic Party in Georgia"

Ellinger believes having former President Jimmy Carter as a grandfather is helping Jason’s campaign but says he’s shocked by the links being made between Jason Carter and current President Obama by Deal’s supporters.

"It has nothing to do with the Georgia governor’s race, the senate race yes, not with the governor’s race, it makes me wonder if Governor Deal is perhaps getting a little desperate and he’s realizing that he doesn’t have the support that Republicans have had in recent years."

Jason Carter will kick off his weekend in Calhoun at 9am Saturday talking with Georgia voters.

Jason Carter will also make an appearance at the Catoosa County Justice Center in Ringgold Georgia, but voters in North Georgia are still divided on both candidates.

Jinny Marie Jagoditsch, Georgia Voter,"People around here are more excited by the fact that he’s Jimmy Carter’s grandson than anything else and I think that will make them, it opens the door for them to hear his policies and I think that’s a great thing"

Others feel Deal is doing a good job and should stay on.

Cynthia Lance, Georgia Voter,"I am a Republican and he is an experience candidate and I agree with what he is doing for the state and I agree with what the Republicans stand for."

The election for Georgia governorship takes place November 4th.
The third candidate is Andrew Hunt of the Libertarian Party.
