Scholarship Named in Luther Masingill’s Honor

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF) – Our own Luther Masingill’s memory lives on through a new scholarship at his alma mater.

Central High school will unveil all the details in a special ceremony next Thursday, but they let us in on a few things.

Qualifying seniors will need at least a "B" average, an interest in pursuing a career in communications, good character, and financial need.

Luther graduated from Central High School in 1941.

He supported the school until the day he died, October 20th, 2014.

James Walker, Vice President of the Central High School Alumni Association, says, "Obviously, when we lost Luther a couple of weeks ago we had some alumni that immediately came up with the idea to honor him through a special way, through our alumni association. And that is going to be with one of our scholarships. It’s going to be made in his honor."

The Board of Directors of the Central High Alumni/Supporters Association will pick the scholarship winner.

If you would like to donate to the scholarship, contact the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga.
