TDOT Warn of Scammers Offering Paving Options

CHATTANOOGA,TN, (WDEF)-TDOT say they are concerned that the elderly or trusting members of our community will hand over money to scammers who claim to be TDOT employees.

Jennifer Flynn, TDOT,"Charge her 80 dollars a square foot, there were about 4 guys they were in a  white crew cab with no logos, emblems or markings, the men did not have any kind of ID"

More sightings and reports of the scammers have surfaced in recent days including East Brainerd.

TDOT say some residents even tried to withdraw thousands of dollars in an effort to pay the scammers at a bank off Highway 158 in recent weeks.

Jennifer Flynn, TDOT,"These people who said they were from TDOT and our regional director told the bank, or the person who called from the bank, to just call the police"

Brainerd resident and city council member Larry Grohn is concerned that these scammers could leave families vulnerable coming up to the holiday season.

Larry Grohn, City Council Member, Brainerd Resident,"You can spend 40 dollars go over and get information on voter registration and find out the ages of folks who live in certain communities and then they can go and take advantage of these individuals"

Grohn added there are options out there for residents who are concerned.

Larry Grohn, City Council Member, Brainerd Resident,"A new app called Next Door where they communicate with each other we have numerous neighborhoods that have signed on to this and created their own internal  networks"

A similar paving scam is also going on in Polk County.
