Food Programs in Jeopardy at Cross Pointe Church of God in Cleveland
They’re armed with an apron and answers to feed about 200 people a week at Cross Pointe Church of God.
They also distribute food to hundreds more each week.
Pastuch says, "I’ve really dedicated a lot of my life to this right now and so for us not to be able to serve the community would be heartbreaking."
However, here’s the heartbreaking reality for this mission of mercy … their walk in freezer and cooler broke.
Webb adds, "We tried to save what we could."
But it forced them to dump about 30 percent of their stockpile, including some food they had for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Webb says, "We were parking food at grocery stores, restaurants, any place that would help us store any of the food that we could save."
In the meantime, they’re left with a $6,000 bill to fix the problem.
And if they don’t, their food programs are in jeopardy.
Pastuch says, "We have a handful that this is the only hot meal they get all week long."
Webb adds, "We got people who are diabetic who need fresh fruits and vegetables or people who are on WIC, only get certain commodities."
We asked one woman what she would do if the food programs couldn’t continue.
Lillian Papum says, "I don’t know."
Behind Webb’s smile is a lot of worry and a final plea to the public.
Pastuch adds, "Please, just please help us. We’re in desperate need right now."
