UPDATE: CBS 46 reports that about a third of the victims were found in the Atlanta metro area (28 children there).

WASHINGTON D.C. (WDEF) – The FBI reports they have located 84 minors who are victims of child sex trafficking and exploitation nationwide.

Operation Cross Country was carried out during two weeks in August.

They also located 37 children who were missing during the campaign.

Officials also say they located 141 adult victims of human trafficking and either identified or arrested 85 suspects.

The FBI Atlanta Division tells us that child victims in Georgia ranged between 14 and 17 years old.

“Human trafficking is among the most heinous crimes the FBI encounters,” said FBI Director Christopher Wray. “Unfortunately, such crimes—against both adults and children—are far more common than most people realize.  As we did in this operation, the FBI and our partners will continue to find and arrest traffickers, identify and help victims, and raise awareness of the exploitation our most vulnerable populations.”
