Chattanooga Charity Relevant Hope Provide Special Sleeping Bag Jackets To Homeless
They received a pair of specially designed winter weather jackets that double as sleeping bags which can also be carried as backpacks.
This will be the very first time these jackets will be used by the homeless community here in Chattanooga they are originally from Detroit and Jimmy Turner or Relevant Hope says he found them through social media.
Pastor Jimmy Turner, Relevant Hope,"There was a video going around about a lady named Veronica Scott out of Detroit Michigan who had come up with a project for a class in college that long story short ended up becoming these jackets."
Turner applied for a grant and also raised money to buy more than 20 jackets.
David Cole, Member of Homeless Community,"I know since I been back out here I didn’t have anything, I didn’t have a tent which I got lucky the day I ended up out here, but Relevant Hope has been the one that has brought me my blankets and stuff, everything i’ve got is through them which I am very grateful."
Cole has spent the two months living rough with Brandon Spain who says his marriage breakup left him homeless.
"Me and my wife fell on hard financial circumstances and she had me support with her family than I did."
Both men say they are looking for work and are glad to be able to use the jackets sleeping bags to stay warm on their job hunt.
"I have been in factory work and restaurant work, I was a kitchen manager for about two and a half years and also worked at Volkswagen on and off for two years," says Spain.
Turner and his team will spend the weekend visiting camps providing tents, food and the jacket sleeping bags.
