Alpine Crest School Outdoor Classroom
Kids at one local school are getting a hands on lesson about the great outdoors.
Alpine Crest Elementary unveiled its new outdoor classroom today.
Volunteers have spent the last 6 months clearing out the woods around the school, and getting it ready.
It includes an orchard, and a vegetable garden.
There’s also a butterfly and hummingbird garden to teach students about birds and wildlife.
The school also now has hiking trails, and benches set up for learning outside the classroom walls.
Laurel Krishock is a Master Gardener and
co-chair of the project.
She says this special classroom will really make a difference for the students at the school.
"They’ll have an appreciation for the outdoors and nature, and learn that it’s precious, and that they can make a difference. They can care for it and enjoy it at the same time."
Volunteers, parents and gardeners put in 500 hours of work to create this outdoor classroom.
