Mocs Looking to Build Momentum to Close Out Regular Season
Chattanooga-(WDEF) Even though the Mocs have already clinched a playoff spot, they can’t afford to take it easy to close out the season.
Chattanooga’s final two regular season games will have a big impact on their playoff bracket.
Since the Mocs clinched the outright SoCon title and a playoff berth on Saturday, tight end Faysal Shafaat felt it was appropriate to wear last year’s SoCon title ring.
"I wore it on Saturday during the Moc-Walk. I thought I would wear it today. We clinched it on Saturday. We didn’t have to share it this year, so it’s a pretty special day."
Head coach Russ Huesman can’t believe his team has already nailed down the conference crown.
"To secure a playoff bid and a championship with two games left is really almost unheard of."
Now the Mocs can relax, at least a little bit.
Said linebacker Muhasibi Wakeel,"Now we can take a breather. Look at what we have left, and what we can still accomplish with this season."
With two big goals under their belt, Huesman doesn’t want the team to get too comfortable.
"Momentum going into the playoffs. You don’t want to be losing football games going into the playoffs. I think momentum and confidence is huge."
Chattanooga still has a chance to earn a top eight playoff seed, which would give them a first round playoff bye.
But Huesman says the Mocs will not get a bye if they don’t win out.
"If we don’t win both of these games, we ain’t getting seeded. Book it. You can go bet the house, car, anything you want on it. If we don’t win these next two, we ain’t getting seeded. You can take that to the bank."
