Nationally, one in four are foreign-born.
The rate in Chattanooga is just over 10%.
That’s a total of 2,105 workers.
That puts Chattanooga’s metro area 61st on the national list.
The percentage of foreign-born workers has been increasing over the last decade across the country.
The industry is coping with a construction boom with an ongoing shortage of labor.
The numbers are not evenly distributed.
California and Texas have the most foreign-born construction workers.
Miami, Los Angeles, Washington D.C. and Houston are the largest immigrant markets.
The analysis found they are most likely to be drywallers, roofers and painters.
