A Look at Some of the Stories at the Lookout Wild Film Festival

Chattanooga (WDEF) – The annual Lookout Wild Film Festival is back this weekend.

The movies kick off Thursday night at the Camp House, then move to the community theater at Memorial Auditorium.

You can find out about tickets here.

The 4 days are packed with short documentaries about all manner of outdoor life.

Here are a few examples on the bill this year.

The Wanderlust of Vanlife
(Thurs 7PM Camp House)

In 2011, Foster Huntington created the #vanlife Instagram hashtag, and unexpectedly spawned hundreds of thousands of posts and a family of eager followers. It became a community of like-minded individuals who delight in the kind of adventure you can only get by traveling through the wilderness in a clunky, decades-old vehicle. In this documentary, we follow a group of #vanlife enthusiasts to uncover what the lifestyle means to them.

Here is one such Van Life story on YouTube (not the doc)

The Rocky Mountain Traverse
(Thurs 7PM The Camp House)

How about a new kind of camping: Vol biv, or fly camp, is the next frontier in paragliding. Will Gadd and Gavin McClurg took the sport to a whole new level with their 34 day, 800km, flight along the Rocky Mountains from McBride, B.C. to the U.S./Canada border.  Here is the preview.

The Rider and the Wolf
(Thurs 7PM The Camp House)

This film is part history, mountain bike gonzo, and a true crime mystery.  It looks at the legacy of Mountain bike hall of Famer Mike Rust.  He was a pioneer and cheerleader for the sport he loved in Crested Butte, Colorado.  And then he disappeared.

This is an interview with the filmmaker and with Mike’s brother, who talks about the ongoing mystery.
