A Taste of Cornbread Culture
SOUTH PITTSBURG, Tenn. (WDEF) – The streets of South Pittsburg, Tennessee, are packed this weekend for the National Cornbread Festival.
Today, visitors played games, rode carnival rides, and browsed booths filled with handmade arts and crafts, and the fun continues tomorrow.
Festival Goers also stopped by Cornbread Alley, where they could sample nine different types of cornbread, with all proceeds benefiting local organizations.
What started in 1997 as a way to celebrate the town and its hometown pride, Lodge Cast Iron, has grown into a beloved tradition, powered by more than 350 volunteers each year.
We were able to speak to this year’s 20-25 National Cornbread Cook Off Winner from Houston, Texas, on her thoughts on winning and the festival itself.
Money raised from the festival is poured back into the community, supporting schools, parks, theaters, and historic preservation.
There’s still time to enjoy the food, music, and family fun at the National Cornbread Festival, a true taste of South Pittsburg’s spirit
