Accountant charged with stealing from Volunteer Energy Cooperative

DECATUR, Tennessee (WDEF) – A former accountant for the Volunteer Energy Cooperative in Meigs county has been arrested for the theft of almost a million dollars from the utility.

Jason Kittle is accused of stealing a total of $994,981 from 2011 to 2017.

The Tennessee Comptroller’s Office worked with the TBI in that investigation.

They say the money was taken by making transfers to his personal bank account, and making payments on a personal credit card.

Kittle reportedly managed and reconciled the statements of the VEC bank account, which allowed the theft to remain undetected for years.

He was indicted by the grand jury.
