Agencies complete inspection of the burned Ocoee Whitewater Center
They still don't know what caused the fire
CLEVELAND, Tennessee (WDEF) – Agents with the TBI, ATF, and US Forest Service have now completed their examination of the Ocoee
Whitewater Center after last week’s fire.
But they still don’t know what caused.
That investigation will continue.
In the meantime, officials with the Cherokee National Forest are busy securing the site.
They say that will not affect the river as the whitewater season begins on the Ocoee.
The site is not on the section of the river used by rafting companies.
But it does affect the following trails:
· Rhododendron Trail #332
· Bear Paw Loop Trail #334
· Old Copper Road Trail #333
· Connector trail from Chestnut Loop #335 to Bear Paw Loop Trail #334
They also don’t want people flying drones over the site.
“This is a difficult loss for us and for the whole community”, said Michael Wright, Acting Forest Supervisor for the Cherokee National Forest.
