AI finds a challenge in understanding a Tennessee accent

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) —  AI is having a difficult time understanding the Tennessean accent.

New AI voice technology has allowed many to ask a question without even touching their devices, but technology isn’t always perfect, especially in understanding what we’re saying.

Guide2Fluency conducted a survey of AI’s 10 most misunderstood accents across the United States, and the Southern accent was ranked number one.

Southern dialect contains phrases and words such as “fixin’ to” and “y’all” that often lead to AI’s misinterpretations.

The Appalachian accent also made this list at number five due to its distinctive pronunciation and vocabulary.
