Alabama education superintendent to retire at end of March

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – Alabama Education Superintendent Tommy Bice is resigning.

Bice made the announcement in a press conference Tuesday morning.

Bice, 61, says he felt it was the right time to retire after the department met graduation and other goals.

Bice said he will leave the department at the end of the month.

He said in a statement that he will join the Mike and Gillian Goodrich Foundation as its education director later this spring.

He said the move will allow him to return to work that represents his greatest passion: helping inner-city students, their teachers and leaders to improve educational opportunities and communities.
