Alabama governor: Trump not the best GOP pick for president
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – Republican Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley is harshly criticizing GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump, saying Trump has shown disrespect for women, minorities and the disabled.
Bentley, responding to a question Monday about the presidential race, condemned Trump’s initial refusal to disavow support from former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke.
The Alabama governor said he could not support someone who “won’t disavow that and openly makes fun of women and minorities and also people with disabilities.”
Bentley has endorsed Ohio Gov. John Kasich.
Trump is expected to perform well in the Republican primary contest in Alabama on Super Tuesday.
Asked if he would support Trump in November, if he wins the GOP nomination, Bentley said he would support the Republican nominee but added that Trump was not the best nominee.
