Alabama man charged with Meth in the Mail
Postal inspectors intercepted 10 lbs headed to Sand Mountain
FORT PAYNE, Alabama (WDEF) – A 73 year old man on Sand Mountain faces charges of receiving a very illegal package in the mail.
The investigation has been underway for more than 8 months.
Postal Inspectors intercepted a package headed for the man in Rainsville containing ten pounds of meth.
So they made sure that law enforcement was there when it arrived, along with a search warrant.
The DeKalb County Sheriff says officers found more than $40,000, a gun and property at the home that Rayford Russell, Jr. got from drug sales.
They took it all.
Russell was still on probation for a federal trafficking charge back in 2007.
Sheriff Welden says more arrests and charges are pending.
“These cases take patience and many long days and nights. We have to make sure they are bullet-proofed cases so the prosecution can do their part and a debt to society will surely be paid by the offender.
He added “This is a huge WIN on the war on drugs in DeKalb County and I’m very proud of all those men and women involved who made it happen.”
