Alabama Mother to Serve Life in Prison for Kidnapping, Murder
A northeast Alabama mother will serve life in prison on charges of kidnapping and murdering another young woman.
Investigators say that Loretta Carr and her daughter kidnapped a woman in 2021 that they said was having a relationship with Carr’s boyfriend.
They say the pair took Mary Beth Isbell to an overlook at the Little River Canyon.
Prosecutors say Carr then pushed her over the edge, killing her.
Carr pleaded guilty last Thursday.
She was sentenced to life in prison for the murder and another 20 years for kidnapping.
Prosecutors were asking for the death penalty before the plea deal.
Carr’s daughter has already plead guilty and gotten a 40 year term.
“This is an example of a senseless act destroying a family. A mother is left without a daughter, sisters are left without their sibling, and a son is left without his mother,” stated Summerford. “This family has been through so much, but they have walked with us and law enforcement throughout this process and have been so responsive and helpful. Please continue to pray for this family as they continue to figure out how to go through life without their loved one,”
– District Attorney Summer Summerford said.
