Alleged fake cop busted in Catoosa County

ROSSVILLE, Georgia(WDEF) – A Catoosa County man is facing multiple felony charges after reportedly stalking two people across state lines while pretending to be a police officer.

Daniel Edge, 32, was charged with two counts of assault, kidnapping, impersonating a police officer and stalking.

The charges stem from an October 10 confrontation he had with two men who told investigators, they feared for their lives.

According to the incident report, Edge was in his car when he began following two men in Walker County. The men traveled into Hamilton County and noticed Edge was still following them so they drove into Catoosa County and stopped at a gas station on Lafayette Road. The report said Edge ordered the men out of their vehicle and to place their hands on the car.

"One of the subjects in the vehicle did feel that something else was going on and didn’t feel it was a law enforcement officer so he did flee," said Catoosa County Sheriff Gary Sisk.

Edge reportedly chased the man into a Big Lot store that was across the street from the gas station; According to the report, the chase continued out a fire escape door and into Wilson’s Funeral Home across the street.

When deputies arrived on scene, Edge told them he was following a car that was reported stolen in Fort. Oglethorpe. Then he told a deputy that a Chattanooga police officer advised him to follow the car.

"We haven’t been able to corroborate that and I just can’t see a law enforcement  officer telling someone that," Sisk said.

While at the scene, deputies ran the vehicle identification number and tag of the vehicle that was followed by Edge. It turns out the vehicle was never reported stolen.

"The men driving it were able to prove ownership so nothing he told us so far has panned out been able to be corroborated," Sisk said.

Edge is now out of jail after posting bond.
