Allergy season hard for some people

Allergy season is hitting some people in the Tennessee Valley pretty hard.

With signs of spring outside, allergy season is in high gear. Sylvia Hall says lately her allergies have been getting worse and with this weather she doesn’t expect it to get better anytime soon.

“They have really been bad in the last year with a really bad cough and all of that I had tried everything over the counter that you could try and it just wasn’t working so Susan has at least gotten me to where I can breathe again,” Hall said.

From shots to nasal sprays and other medications, Dr. Susan Raschal, says there are a lot of treatment options.

“People know these days there are lots and lots of over the counter medications. There are some medications you want to be aware of and you also want to know about those medications which is usually why I recommend, even if you take over the counter medicines, you really should talk to you pharmacist your primary care provider or someone in the know,” said Dr. Raschal, with Covenant Allergy and Asthma Care.

She say there are avoidance measures you can take.

“If you have animals that you go outside and you are not allergic to your animals, but then your animals come in the house and they are covered with pollen and you may not see the pollen know that it is going to be helpful to wipe down their coats to get rid of all of that pollen that may be on their coats,” Dr. Raschal said.

As for Hall, she’s decided to try to see if shots will be the answer for her allergy problems.

“I had my first sessions of shots this week and I am in for my second and I am excited to be able to get better,” Hall said.

Doctors warn some allergy medications can have sedative side effects.
