Alpine Crest could be combining into a mega school
HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) – Alpine Crest is one of three schools that could be combining.
Dr. Justin Robertson the Hamilton County School Superintendent said, “We’re recommending combining three of four schools, not all four schools. So three of four and it mentions Alpine Crest, Dupont, Rivermont, and Hixson.”
A meeting in Redbank allowed parents, teachers, and others to share their opinions.
Ben Connor with the School Board of District 6 said, “To make sure that when they are going to take a vote on it, and I am, that we have all the information from the people that matter, the people it’s impacting and that’s you all.”
District 6 David Sharp was also in attendance.
He said, “I’d like to think I’ve got a little influence; I don’t know we will see. Yesterday might tell a different story, but I do get a vote on how it’s financed.”
Some people are worried about the new school site.
Tina Tomaszewski a parent said, “In circled in dark purple is the new elementary site, the dark blue is 500-year-old flood plain and 500-year-old flood way, and we have morons wanting to build a mega school in a flood plain.”
Although Some people believed money was the reason for the move.
Kathy Lennon a previous School Board Member said, “Is Rivermont and Alpine Crest and Dupont high on the priority list or are you just wanting to get rid of that property over there at Dupont.”
Others said an economic issue was to blame.
Jackie Wallace, a parent said, “What we want to know is how come Alpine Crest was built in the 50’s has never money to fix it up, but a normal parks school in a higher socioeconomic level has had lots of money. That school is over a hundred years old.”
Many people came out to show their appreciation for Alpine Crest.
The community will have another chance to weigh in on this so-called mega school.
But no official word on when that will be yet.
