An Officer’s Good Deed Caught on Camera
Nicholas Martin says he was at a red light when he snapped two photos of an East Ridge police officer.
They show Sergeant Scott Butcher feeding a homeless woman and her dog near a local interstate.
Martin says at first he thought the homeless woman was being harassed.
However, after a couple of seconds, he realized Sergeant Butcher was really a hero.
We posted this story on our website Monday night, and it has already received more than 20,000 likes.
Tuesday afternoon, we caught up with Sergeant Butcher to see what he thought about all the praise viewers have sent his way.
Sergeant Butcher says, "I didn’t do this with any intentions of any of this at all. This was something that should have stayed between me and her, but it didn’t. I saw this lady that seemed pretty down on her luck sitting on the side of the ramp on the interstate. She had a dog with her. I pulled over to see if she wanted anything to eat."
Sergeant Butcher tells us his fellow officers in East Ridge frequently help those in need.
