Animal Advocates Call Pit Insurance Bill Discrimination

Tennessee Representative Brenda Gilmore of District 54 is trying to make Pit Bull owners pay a high price for owning the breed by way of liability insurance.

The bill was put off notice today and Gilmore declined to comment to WDEF except to say she’d be looking at revising it.

And officials from every angle of the issue say they have questions about enacting a bill like this one.

Karen Walsh, Executive Director of McKamey Animal Shelter, says Pit Bulls can be very hard to identify.

She says stereotyping dogs is no different than other types of profiling and is wrongful discrimination.
