Another Deadly Shooting on 28th Street

Gunned down inside a residence, little is known yet about the victim who was shot around 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

"We’re currently investigating an incident here in the East Lake Courts that resulted in the death of one individual," said Captain Nathan Vaughn with the Chattanooga Police Department. Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – "We don’t really have much more information at this time. We’re following every credible lead that we have and hopefully we’ll have more information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators."

And as happens time and time again, witnesses wouldn’t speak about what they saw or what they know.

But one woman who lives nearby is fed up with this mentality.

"You got the community staying in the projects, knowing what’s going on," said Freddie May Benford of Chattanooga. "Won’t do nothing about it. Too afraid to speak up because of gang members. It needs to stop. It takes your aunt or uncle or whoever to step up and not be afraid and say what’s going on."

The cops still urge anyone with any information to come forward.

"We’ll just continue to investigate it, collect information," said Vaughn. "We encourage anyone that has information that can assist with this investigation to please call us. Someone in the area I’m sure knows what’s happened and we would appreciate any information that would help."
