Another Hixson home invasion captured on video; one suspect in custody

HIXSON, Tennessee(WDEF) – Chattanooga police are investigating yet another Hixson home invasion captured on video surveillance.

It happened on Saturday in the 1100 block of Thomas Lane.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by News 12, the victim and his girlfriend were sleeping in their bedroom when they were awakened by three men standing over them. One of the men was armed with a stun gun and began activating the weapon while demanding money from the two victims.

According to the affidavit, the male victim knocked the gun way and began to chase the three men out of the bedroom.

At one point the male victim caught one of the three men and fought the suspect to subdue him.

The other two suspects got away in an SUV.

The suspect who was captured has been identified by Chattanooga police as Brandon Bettis, 25, of Chattanooga.

Bettis was transported to Erlanger where he had to be treated for injuries he sustained during the fight.

According to the arrest affidavit, When police questioned Bettis, he told investigators the other two suspects where Lucas Seal and Gary Harvey. A close relative of Seal who asked not to be identified contacted News 12 and said Seal had been wrongly accused by Bettis. The relative told News 12 that during the timeline of the home invasion, Seal was sleep inside her home. The relative also told News 12 that Bettis likely named Seal as a co-suspect because he knew him and was trying to keep from naming the actual co-suspects.

Bettis also told investigators that he and the two other men who took part in the home invasion intended to take drugs from the male resident.

According to the arrest affidavit, video surveillance from the residence shows Bettis and two other men illegally entering the residence through a glass door. One of the men appeared to be armed with a knife.

Bettis’s bond was set at $100,000. He was officially charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary.

The other two people who were named as suspects by Bettis are not in custody and have not been charged.

This case is similar to a home invasion that also occurred in Hixson back in mid-November.

In that case, a small group of men forced their way into a home on Fairfax Drive.

One of them was armed with a crowbar and mace.

The men attacked and robbed a young couple in the bedroom. In this case, the male victim gained access to his gun and chased the suspects out of his home. That particular home invasion was also captured on video surveillance but no suspects were named at the time.
