Army veteran supports soldiers in walk across country
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — U.S. Army Veteran Jack Huffman is on a journey across America in support of war veterans and fallen soldiers.
Huffman is actually walking across six states.
He started his journey in Sarasota, Florida, and plans to end his journey in Rochester Hills, Michigan.
His goal is to make it to the 6th Annual Salute our Warriors event in Michigan, which takes place on July 13.
Huffman began walking across the country on May 13. He hopes to complete the 1500-mile journey in just 60 days, in time for the event.
His mission is for America to get up and moving again, just one step at a time. But he is also collecting donations for the Fallen and Wounded Soldiers Fund. Huffman explains that 97 cents from every dollar donated goes to the living expenses for injured soldiers and their families.
“I mean it’s absolutely incredible. You’re talking about real heroes that are out there saving people, fighting for America. And that’s what I’m trying to… help support those people that have been injured,” Huffman said. “And raising money by walking across America, in order to help our injured and fallen soldiers.”
Huffman documents his walk on a timelapse camera and shares his journey on Facebook. He uses a live GPS link so people can follow along.
This is Huffman’s second longest walk across the nation.
