Arrest in Dalton Murder Case

Dalton (WDEF) – Dalton police have arrested 26 year old Aaron Howell for a murder dating back to December.

They took him into custody this morning at an abandoned house behind the Walmart on East Walnut Avenue.

On December 22, Paul Guerrant was found severely beaten in the middle of Dozier Street.

He died later at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga.

The coroner ruled that he died from blunt force trauma after multiple blows to the head.

Investigators determined he had been walking home from a meeting at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.

They got a tip about Howell and uncovered physical evidence in the case.

Detectives have been waiting for forensic tests to come back.

They are not releasing a motive for the attack at this time.
