Arrest in Rhea County hit and run homicide

DAYTON, Tenn. (WDEF) – The Rhea County Sheriff’s Department has made an arrest in the Hit and Run death at the We Care Thrift Store.

Two weeks ago, Walter Hale confronted a man who was trying to drop off damaged goods at the store.

Investigators say the man ran over Hale and then fled.

Hale later died from head wounds.

The Sheriff’s Department posted surveillance video of the suspect and his white pickup.

Investigators say they recovered that truck early Friday morning in Hamilton County.

They took Douglas Edward Alvey from a Highway 58 address into custody.

He faces a charge of criminal homicide.
