Garage Fire that claimed Classic Car / Lynn Ingram, Englewood Rural Fire Department

ATHENS, Tenn. (WDEF) —  An Athens resident lost his 1981 Corvette to a garage fire Wednesday morning.

On December 4, 2024, around 6:30 a.m., the resident on Co Road 420 when into his garage to warm up his 1981 Corvette, then proceeded back inside the residence.

Later, the residences heard a popping noise outside.

When looking to see what caused the sound, they found their garage to be fully involved in flames.

According to WJSQ WLAR, the garage, car, and contents were a total loss.

Fire crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to the main residence.

WJSQ WLAR also stated the car was being prepared for a Christmas parade.

Responding agencies were Englewood Rural Fire Niota Rural Fire, Athens Rural Fire, Etowah Rural Fire and AUB.
