Atlanta tops new TSA rankings for gun confiscations at airports
ATLANTA, Georgia (WDEF) – TSA reports that the number of guns confiscated at U.S. airports continues to climb.
And our region is well represented.
Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International took the prize for most confiscated guns in 2016 (198 guns).
Texas (Dallas & Houston) airports placed 2nd and 3rd.
Nashville International was 7th nationally (80 guns).
The number of confiscations rose 28% last year across the country.
The Atlanta airport blew by their previous gun record in October.
That’s impressive.
Yes, Hartsfield-Jackson is the world’s busiest airport, but they do NOT lead in passengers going through TSA checkpoints, because a lot of their traffic are connecting from other airports.
Chattanooga’s Metropolitan Airport had 16 confiscations in 2016, up from just 10 the year before.
Here is a story we did in April on a gun confiscated at Chattanooga’s Metropolitan Airport.
