Auburn Basketball Signs First 5-Star Prospect
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) – Auburn’s basketball program has landed its first 5-star signee in guard Mustapha Heron.
Tigers coach Bruce Pearl announced the signing of the guard from Waterbury, Connecticut, and forward Anfernee McLemore on Thursday. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound Heron drew a consensus 5-star rating from the major recruiting services.
He’s rated a Top 25 prospect by all four. ESPN rates McLemore, from Warwick, Georgia, a 4-star prospect.
Pearl says Heron "is a program changer" who was one of the most fun players to watch in summer leagues. Pearl says he is "impossible to stay is front of" but also has great range on his jump shot and maturity.
Heron averaged 22 points and 5.3 rebounds last season at Sacred Heart High School.
He has helped lead Sacred Heart to consecutive state titles.
