Auburn Heads Into SEC Media Days Hoping For Better Defense in 2015

SEC media days kicked off today in Hoover, Alabama. Auburn has been one of the trendy picks to win the SEC this year. But the Tigers will need a lot of improvement on defense in order to compete in the rugged SEC West.

Auburn coach Gus Malzahn should have brought new defensive coordinator Will Mushcamp with him to SEC media days.
Lot of questions about the Tigers defense that gave up thirty or more points in their final seven games against D-one opponents.
Reporter-"Going into this spring, you mentioned about trying to get the edge back in the program coming off last season. What is that edge, and what goes towards trying to get that back?"
Said Malzahn,"Yeah, just that physical, hit you in the mouth, hard edge that Auburn has been known to when they win championships. Defensively, Will definitely believes in that."
Reporter-"Kris, What has been the main difference coach Muschamp has brought into the defense?"
Said linebacker Kris Frost,"Really, the intensity that we have each and every day. It’s just a different atmosphere at practice."
At quarterback, big Jeremy Johnson will take over for Nick Marshall.
Said Malzahn,"Jeremy Johnson can flat-out throw the football. We didn’t run him the last two years when he played because we had Nick Marshall, but he’s a very good runner."
Said Johnson,"We are going to stay balanced with running and passing. Just probably a little more passing."
While Auburn fans scream War Eagle, the Auburn players have a new battle cry in 2015.
"Yeah, ‘Count on Me’ is the players being able to count on each other on and off-the-field. They’ve really bought into it, and they’ve done a very good job with that motto."
Malzahn knows he will have to count on everyone to survive the SEC West.
"If you look at the West, I truly believe it’s the best conference in football by a long shot. You look at the Mississippi schools. They’re playing good football now. You throw in Texas A&M, and they’re an extremely talented team. It’s just the grind of week-in and week-out."
