Austin Hatcher Foundation wins first place at Green Prix
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Drivers started their batteries and hit the track for the Green Prix.
Rick Bowers, Executive Director of Green Spaces said, “Many of you know about Green Spaces. We have lots of exciting programs we do. This is one of my favorite and everyone’s favorite is the Green Prix that we do every year.”
The Green Prix kicked off Friday and welcomed elementary schools.
“You all are winners and you all did a great job. It was so much fun today,” said Bowers.
Mayor Tim Kelly recognizes the power the youth has.
Mayor Kelly said, “This is also a great way to illustrate Chattanooga’s future as Chattanooga’s future is sustainable mobility. We are becoming the buckle of the battery belt and you guys are going to be the people that make it all happen as Chattanooga’s youth. It is really exciting for me.”
Volkswagen CEO and President Chris Glover is happy they could be a partner of a students future.
He said, “Creating an interest in the automobile and creating an interest in electrified mobility and let’s just hope you may even be employees of Volkswagen Chattanooga in years to come.”
Ten different schools competed.
Lookout Valley placed fifth. Westview Elementary placed fourth. St. Peter’s was third. Apison Elementary was second. And the Austin Hatcher Foundation took first place.
Middle schoolers and High schoolers will hit the track Saturday.
