Author says High School Hazing is not Uncommon
Allegations of rape and endless hazing are never easy things to deal with, but when someone who has written multiple books on the subject says,
"Physical injuries, this is the worst I have ever read about…."
You know this situation is especially serious…. One player is in the hospital with three others facing charges. While incidents of this magnitude don’t happen often, they may not always make the headlines, but athletic hazing on a lesser scale is not exactly out of the ordinary.
Hank Nuwer said, "I kind of prefer to say it’s not uncommon, you know. We are hearing so many of them. There was a time during the football season for example where I could count on 1 or 2 a week at the high school level."
Many coaches have been held responsible, but in this case right now, we just don’t have the answers to the questions to be able to determine that …
"When did he know? How did he find out? What did he do, and when did he do it after he found out about the incident?"
Ultimately those decisions will be made by the school. The first domino fell yesterday when the team was suspended for the remainder of the season last night… With police handling the criminal case, could the school district soon be facing a civil case from the family?
"A San Diego area school had to pay a whopping 600,000 dollars plus."
