Authorities investigate murder-suicide at Dunlap nursing home
DUNLAP, Tenn. (WDEF) – Dunlap Police and the district attorney’s office responded to a murder-suicide on Monday morning at a nursing home.
“TBI was here to assist along with Dunlap PD. And what it appears is the husband of the victim came to the nursing home, shot and killed his wife, and then shot and killed himself,” said Assistant District Attorney Steven Strain.
The victims are identified as Kirk and Marchie Bubul.
The DA’s office said Kirk was visiting his wife Marchie, who was a resident at the nursing home.
DA Strain explained why so many agencies responded to the call.
“We have our investigators that very experienced basically taking the lead on the investigation, then TBI came. TBI agents help assist the investigation,” Strain said.
According to the district attorney’s office, this the first murder-suicide to ever happen at the NHC Healthcare Sequatchie.
Strain said no other patients or residents were injured from the incident.
“Nurses apparently heard something, responded found the crime scene, and they immediately notified law enforcement,” said Strain.
However, an autopsy will be performed on both victims.
Strain considers this crime as a devastating tragedy.
“There is no way to foresee someone doing this. These people that are on staff is very upset about what happened. I know there making arrangements for grief counselors for the staff, so it is just a very tragic sad situation,” DA Strain concluded.
