Auto sale scams become more widespread
Tennessee officials are warning consumers of a auto sales scam that is getting more popular.
The scammers hit people selling vehicles on Facebook Marketplace.
They contact you and make a deal to buy the vehicle.
But then they will provide a phony wire transfer or fake check to pay for it.
They pick up the vehicle before you realize it is a scam.
And to make matters worse, fraud isn’t covered by insurance.
State officials say the best way to avoid being a victim is make sure the payment is valid before releasing the vehicle to a buyer.
