Avian flu reaches chickens in Chattooga County
SUMMERVILLE, Georgia (WDEF) The Summerville News reports that avian flu cases have moved into northwest Georgia.
A commercial poultry breeding operation in Chattooga County has tested positive for H7.
This version of the bird flu cannot be spread to humans and is no threat to the food chain.
But it has forced the destruction of a lot of chickens, including the ones in Chattooga County.
The first cases occurred in producers of south-central Tennessee and crossed the line into Alabama.
This is the first reported case in Georgia.
