Back-to-school sales tax holiday happening this weekend
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WDEF) — Those in need of back-to-school shopping should take advantage of this weekend’s sales tax holiday.
Tennessee’s sales tax holiday is from July 28 to July 30, 2023.
The holiday will suspend state and local sales taxes on back-to-school purchases.
Tennesseans can save on items such as clothing, school supplies and computers, according to Governor Bill Lee’s office. This gives residents the chance to save up to 9.75% on these items.
“Tennessee’s commitment to strong fiscal stewardship has allowed our state to cut taxes and put dollars back in the pockets of hardworking Tennesseans,” said Governor Lee. “I encourage every Tennessee family to take advantage of back-to-school savings this weekend and thank the General Assembly for partnering to provide direct financial relief for taxpayers.”
In addition, a three-month-long grocery tax holiday will take place from August 1 through October 31.
The tax holidays are part of Governor Lee’s Tennessee Works Tax Act. His office says this act is the largest tax cut in state history.
