Backhoe Hits Gas Line, Causes Explosion in Lookout Valley

A backhoe hit a gas line in Lookout Valley this morning about 9:45am causing a big explosion.

Residents near Patten Chapel Road report hearing the explosion.

The operator was not hurt, but police evacuated a nearby motel and a convenience store.

At least 6 Chattanooga fire crews responded to the scene, near the old El Ray Mexican Restaurant.  The fire was put out about an hour later.
