Bald River Falls Bridge Replacement pushed back again
No new date has been announced, but they insist it will still happen
This time they are blaming “challenges in the contracting marketplace.”
Some road and trail closures were supposed to begin this month in preparation for the major project next spring.
Now the Forest Service says it has all been pushed, but aren’t saying when it will happen.
“It’s unfortunate the project will not start in early 2022 as expected, but the project is still slated to occur,” said District Ranger Stephanie Bland.
The project will replace the existing bridge that runs along the Tellico Rivers past the popular waterfall, which is showing signs of decay.
But the replacement bridge will be bigger and give space for people to park and walk up to view the falls.
Right now, pedestrians create a driving hazard.
Bald River Falls is a popular side trip from the Cherohala Skyway and the Tellico River, mainly because you can drive up to it.
