Bama Expected to Compete For Another National Title Under Nick Saban
During the Tide’s stop at SEC Media Days, head coach Nick Saban said he had ten players sign NFL contracts from last year’s national title team. That’s a lot of talent to replace, but Saban is once again expected to find the missing pieces this year and put the Tide in the hunt for another national crown.
Nick Saban is about to settle in for his 12th season at Alabama, and the 66-year-old legend shows no signs of slowing down.
Said offensive lineman Ross Pierschbacher:”Just watching him work is unbelievable. Never seen a guy more driven. And just when he gets into his football mode, it’s all business.”
Said Saban:”Well I’ve always said before that I really hate to lose. Uh. I think I hate losing more than I like winning.”
Saban also hates talking about who will start at quarterback for the Tide. Jalen Hurts or Tua Tagovailoa. But at least the players welcomed the hot topic.
Said running back Damien Harris:”One thing that has really impressed me about both of them, and one thing I can say holds true to both of those guys is you don’t see this competition affecting them.”
Said Pierschbacher:”Yeah like you said, both quarterbacks are so talented, I don’t think we can go wrong with either one.”
Can’t go wrong giving the ball to Damien Harris either. He has rushed for a thousand yards in each of the last two seasons, and he decided to return for his senior year.
Said Harris:”You know I love walking down the street in Tuscaloosa, and somebody yelling Roll Tide. There are just so many things about the University of Alabama. Living in Tuscaloosa that really bring us joy as athletes. So coming back for my senior year wasn’t hard.”
Playing for Saban can be hard, and so can riding a boat with Saban.
Reporter:”What have your teammates told you about being stuck on a boat with Nick Saban?”
Said Harris:”I was there.”
Reporter:”How was it?”
Said Harris:”It was horrible. (chuckles) So it was Coach Saban’s brand new boat. He had just got it. He took it out on the water. We were having a good time, and all of a sudden it just kind of stops.”
Said Saban:”And the fuel pump went out. All right. So we did not run out of gas. Now there has been some benefit to everybody thinking we ran out of gas. I’ve got at least 100 gas cans.”
