Baylor Advances to Spring Fling on Walk Off 3 Run Homer From Teddy Lepcio

Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) The Baylor baseball team got a 3-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to beat Briarcrest Christian 11-10 on Thursday afternoon to advance to Spring Fling in Murfreesboro. Game three of the state quarterfinal series proved to be a dog fight all afternoon. Baylor took an early 4-0 lead, and they missed an opportunity for a big inning in the bottom of the fourth. Leading 4-2 at the time, the Red Raiders loaded the bases with no outs, but Saints pitcher Kaleb Gipson struck out the next three batters to end the threat. In the top of the 5th, Briarcrest scored four runs to take a 6-4 lead. Baylor regained the advantage in the bottom of the sixth. They scored on three walks and a sac fly RBI from Jay Dill to go up 8-6. The Red Raiders tried to close out the game in the top of the seventh, but the Saints Tyler Harrington hit a two-run homer to tie the game at eight. Briarcrest added two more runs in the inning to go up 10-8. Trailing by that 10-8 margin going to the bottom of the seventh, Baylor had two men on with one out for Teddy Lepcio. That’s when he blasted a three run homer to the opposite field for the game winner. Said Lepcio:”I’ve never hit an opposite field home run. I laughed with my Dad. I pull the ball so much, you might as well put that ball in Cooperstown because it actually went opposite field. I was just looking for something I could hit hard and pass it down to my teammates. Luckily it went over the wall. I knew this was my last time playing on Wyatt McMahan Field. I just wanted to soak it in because this is the last time being able to play here. To be able to have this memory on this field is just truly a blessing.”
