Baylor Bringing Plenty of Size to the Table
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) Get ready for some bully ball from Baylor this fall.
They got a big back, and an even bigger offensive line.
Brian Armstrong puts the Red Raiders in the 30-in-30 spotlight.
Baylor running back Shekai Mills-Knight gave instant praise to his offensive line, and at their size, who can blame him.
Said Mills-Knight:”I feel like we’ve got the best line in the nation. The O-line makes such great holes. It’s always wide open. It’s like five yard plus runs. I feel like the defense will get tired.”
Said head coach Eric Kimrey:”Shekai Mills-Knight is up to 220-pounds now. That’s quite a load to bring down. A young man David Gabriel Georges has come in, and he gives us some flash at that position as well. In this game you need a few running backs.”
That running game will be just one of the features on this Baylor team, who is looking to get back to the state title game and win it this year.
Said Kimrey:”Last year is last year. Hope doesn’t exist in the past. It’s all about the present and the future. This is the 2024 Baylor Red Raiders.”
This Baylor team will look much different from last year’s state runners-up, as players like Whit Muschamp and Amari Jefferson and Max LeBlanc have graduated.
Said Kimrey:”We’re not trying to replace them. We are trying to be who we are. I don’t want quarterback Briggs Cherry to be Whit Muschamp. I want him to be Briggs Cherry. Those guys have done a wonderful job of responding to that challenge.”
The best version of Briggs sounds pretty great. His coach says he has a Sunday arm.
Said Kimrey:”He’s got unbelievable talent with his arm talent. There’s not a throw he can’t make. To watch his progression in the last year. He could have started at many other schools across the country, but he chose to come here and learn. He also has put on 20 or 25 pounds, and his arm is even stronger than it was last year.”
