Baylor Softball Continues to Rack Up State Championship Trophies
Murfreesboro, TN-(WDEF-TV) The Baylor Softball team continues to crank out the state titles.
They captured their 8th in-a-row Thursday.
Brian Armstrong stepped to the plate with the softball kingpins.
Baylor softball has won 16 state titles, including eight in a row.Head coach Kelly Smith has been part of each and every one, either as a player or as a coach.
Said head coach Kelli Smith:”Every year is different, it’s a different group, it’s a different team.Sometimes it’s some of these ladies first championship and you know, there’s, there’s adversity, there’s good times and bad times throughout the season, so to see them come together at the right time and win a title for this season is great”
Said pitcher Kaylee Snyder”We’re just a team and we just work together, so it just feels great every year to play with all of my best friends.”
Said outfielder Katie Raper:”Every team’s different, so it’s always like a new time when we win every single time.”
The latest one came on a nine-five victory over Chattanooga Christian School and two other wins by Mercy Rule.
Said Smith:” It’s just a different team, different group of seniors leading us.I can’t say enough about our pitching staff that literally their stats across the line are almost identical and we trust those two. They work together and they don’t care who’s on the mound as long as we get it done.”
Said Snyder”Our hitting has just been on fire this weekend. We just knew it was going to keep coming through and it did, especially in that last 6th inning to get some more insurance run.”
There was an extra bonus to beating CCS as Baylor Lost a game to the Chargers earlier this season.
Said Raper: They beat us on senior night and I’m A senior, so it was really hard on me and beating them tonight was really big for me.”
Said Smith:”I think we split during the middle of the season and I think the girls wanted to kind of settle the score today.”
Baylor players only know what it’s like to win state titles as the entire team has yet to do anything other than to win a state title their entire high school career.
Said Smith:”Great leadership from year to year just gets passed down. These kids, there’s middle school kids in our program here, there’s players from years past here. It’s just a family and the girls buy into it and we love that about Baylor softball.”
Said Snyder”We just trust each other and everyone knows that everyone’s got their back.If we make an error in the field,we’re going to get the run back. It’s a matter of fact.”
