Baylor Softball Reflects on State Record Seventh Straight State Title

The Baylor softball team made history last weekend in Murfreesboro. They beat GPS to claim their seventh straight state championship, which set a new state record for the most consecutive state titles. News 12’s Rick Nyman has more.

Said pitcher Avery Shamblin:”Well I think we just knew like we worked through this, and we were built for this.”
When you’ve built a dynasty, you’re always confident you can win. Head coach Kelli Smith is the architect. She has been apart of every state softball title in Baylor history.
Said Smith:”Just setting the culture and the standard and passing it along. But it’s really exciting each year, you know we really just focus on that team and their personality and those kids experience in the state championship.”
Said Shamblin:”Coach Smith is the best you are going to get. That’s what is expected, and so we are going to try and keep on going.”
Regardless of how many title you’ve won before, you still have to earn each one of them every year.
Reporter:”What was this team’s personality?”
Said Smith:”They’re winners. Great kids. Gritty. Hard working. Just a lot of fun to be around. Loose. Love to dance. Love to have a good time and love to support each other.”
Said pitcher Kaylee Snyder:”It was tough, but we got through it. We’ve been having hard practices to like keep us conditioned. Then we got some Panera, so that was pretty good.”
This years team had to battle an extra day off due to rain, so Coach Smith turned to the Baylor soccer team for motivaton.
Said Smith:”That was a different situation for us with the rain delay. I think it was really exciting to get to go last night to soccer. Get back in a competitve spirit and see them win it. Cheer those guys on. I think that really pumped our girls up.”
The day after the soccer title, Baylor celebrated their title as well. Seven in-a-row.
Said Snyder:”It’s just crazy. Like it’s such a fun experience with the team and all that. I’m just glad we got to do it together.”
Reporter:”Eight straight next year right coach?”
Said Smith:”I’m going to enjoy this one tonight.” (laughter)
