Beloved Easter Tradition Returns to Collegedale: SonRise Resurrection Pageant Draws Hundreds

COLLEGEDALE, TN (WDEF)— One of Collegedale’s most cherished Easter traditions made its powerful return this year, as the SonRise Resurrection Pageant once again transformed the campus of Southern Adventist University into a living storybook of the final days of Jesus Christ.

Drawing thousands of visitors from across the region, the interactive, mile-long experience walks guests through a series of dramatic, immersive scenes depicting Jesus’ final week—from the Last Supper to the Crucifixion and the empty tomb.

Organizers say the event is meant to be more than just a reenactment—it’s a way to connect with people on a deeper level.

“Our attempt was to give a gift to the community,” said one event leader. “Especially for those who may have heard about Jesus but didn’t really understand the story, or had questions. We wanted to create something that would engage them and invite them to explore more.”

Now in its 28th year, the pageant is powered by more than 1,000 volunteers, many of whom return year after year, driven by a shared sense of purpose and community.

“I used to come here with my sisters when they were in college, and it was a really impactful experience,” said one mother who now volunteers with her children. “This is only our second year helping out in the marketplace, but we’ve loved it. When people can immerse themselves in the story—it’s just beautiful.”

Each year, organizers refresh and fine-tune the scenes, adding new elements while staying true to the biblical narrative. From live animals and period-accurate costumes to emotional performances and detailed sets, the production aims to fully transport visitors back in time.

For many, the pageant has become a meaningful Easter tradition—one that blends history, faith, and storytelling in a way that’s hard to forget.
