Bi-Annual Shred It event held Saturday morning

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)-  Dozens came out to participate in a free shredding event Saturday.

Every year the event is bigger and better and that’s because of YOU.

People were able to shred their sensitive documents and get rid of unused and expired medications as well.

This event is held in partnership with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s office, AARP, News 12 and Shred It.

Sheriff Jim Hammond says that these strong partnerships are the reason more people are able to participate every year.

Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Hammond says, “We have seen a big increase every year since we’ve done this, in the number of people who come. The good thing for a lot of, especially folks that are elderly, they don’t have to get out of their car. We will take it out, if you want your boxes back, we’ll see that you get those. It is instantly put in the shredder and people can see the machines shredding all their paperwork.”

The Shred-It trucks were fired up all morning.

AARP also provided free coffee and breakfast from Chick Fil A at this event.
