Big Plans In Fort Oglethorpe
Veterans Day Festivities
Fort Oglethorpe, GA (WDEF) – Everybody loves a parade, and that’s exactly what will take place on Saturday, November the 6th in Fort Oglethorpe!
It’s all part of celebrating Veterans Day, which is November the 11th.
The polo field at Barnhardt Circle in Fort Oglethorpe will be a hoppin’ come November the 6th. As the Fort Oglethorpe Veteran and Citizen Council will hold a parade and festival, honoring those who serve.
The parade starts at 10:30….and then the fun really starts. There will be vendors on hand, various crafts and activities. You name it.
“The parade will start on the corner of Battlefield Parkway and Lafayette Road. It will run to the 6th Cavalry Museum, where all of the festivities will take place. The parade is unique, in that there really isn’t another Veterans Day Parade in the North Georgia area.”
The Veteran and Citizen Council is partnering with the Museum of Flight. One of its bases is in Rome, Georgia. It’ll do two flyovers on the day, with the T-28!!
Chris McKeever, 6th Calvary Museum Executive Director, “They want to show their patriotism. Their goal is to educate everybody about aviation, and the role that it’s played in shaping America.”
The Museum of Flight will also have various displays at the festival. One of those displays will be a car. It’s a very rare machine.
Chris McKeever, “They have the 1978 silver edition Corvette as part of their display. Only two were ever made. And they have one. Yes, it’ll be here. A great day for family and to honor those who’ve served.”
All veterans are welcome to attend the festival, to include our first responders. And if the stars line up correctly, there just might be a special guest on hand. Have to be there to see.
The festival will run into the evening hours. And yes, there will be fireworks to follow!
